Plan where each decking board goes.
Choose boards, plan the purchase and cuts, then follow the layout course by course. Labels connect each piece to its place on the plan.
Lumber
Work out the cuts before the lumber run.
A 12′-6″ joist is too long for a 12-foot board. Cut it from a 14-footer and you have an offcut to account for. Deck Works shows which stock board each member comes from and what is left, so you can compare the cuts before buying.
The app shows stock lengths and offcuts. You choose whether to change the deck’s dimensions; automatic dimension suggestions are on the roadmap.

What it does not check yet: connections, foundations, lateral design, guards, and professional approval. Deck Works screens gravity against the 2024 IRC and NDS using the stated assumptions. Results are preliminary, and the design still needs professional review before ordering materials or building.
